Margarita Esther Sanchez
The people around me are the reason I pursue law and public policy. As a first-generation Mexican American, I have always been inspired by the resilience, determination, and experiences of those around me. Listening to individuals share their challenges, aspirations, and hopes for a better future has shaped my perspective and shown me the importance of advocating for others. Through these experiences, I learned that meaningful change begins with understanding people's needs and ensuring their voices are heard. My commitment to service led me to work at the Washington State Legislature, where I gained firsthand insight into the policymaking process and the impact government decisions have on people's lives. Engaging with lawmakers and learning how legislation is developed deepened my understanding of the responsibility that comes with public leadership. Most importantly, it reinforced the value of listening to constituents and recognizing that effective policy is rooted in the experiences of those it serves. I am motivated by the opportunity to make a difference for others, particularly for individuals who may not always feel represented in decision-making spaces. My goal is to pursue a career where I can advocate for equitable opportunities, address community concerns, and help create solutions that improve people's lives. I applied to this scholarship because it would allow me to continue developing my leadership skills, expand my knowledge of public policy, and pursue opportunities that will prepare me to serve others and create lasting positive change.
Goals
My long-term goal is to become an attorney and use my legal expertise to pursue a career in public policy and public service. I hope to bridge the gap between communities and government by advocating for policies that are responsive to the needs of the people they serve.
